Icon do it
We’ve recently been searching for an icon to represent “dementia” in our user interface. We want to help our professional care provider customers by displaying a set of simple icons next to their pictures of their clients, to signpost whether they have visual or hearing impairment, use a wheelchair, are frail, or have dementia. There are universally understood symbols for most of these but it seems that there is no internationally agreed symbol for dementia. We’ve had a crack at designing our own. We found it a little challenging. What we don’t want to do is demean or offend those with dementia or their carers. So how do you sensitively communicate that there has been some loss of mental function – memory or cognition?
You can see what we’ve come up with. Have you a better idea? If so, we would love to see it so please get in touch.
